  1. Chelmsford & District Sub-Aqua Club 2013 Annual General Meeting Diving Officers Report

  2. First - Safety • 2013 Started off looking like it was going to be troublesome • 2 Divers in the Decompression chamber – including a first of an Ocean Diver trainee after diving at Stoney Cove • 2 Fast ascents recorded – one with equipment implications • After that the season settled down and no further problems – Phew!

  3. Safety • The stats seem to reinforce the idea that the early part of the season brings more incidents • So take care at the start of 2014 and make sure you and your kit are fit for the job – more on that in my January Open Forum round up of 2013

  4. The 2013 Season • We had a few new destinations this year – Lymington and Newquay were very successful and have been retained for 2014 • Also some new fresh water sites – Divers Cove and the River Chelmer • Easter was moved to the Jedi Weekend (may the fourth) – due to the Icy weather and totalled 80 man dives

  5. Diving Report 2013 not a bad year for weather Cancellations 79% of dive days completed 21% cancelled due to weather

  6. Diving Report Of the available Boat spaces only 76% filled – averaging 9.2 spaces instead of the planned 10.5 spaces that was budgeted for Average was reduced by a couple of very poorly supported trips Dive Leader Level Trips a particular problem

  7. Diving Report • Total of 558 Man dives completed • Adding up to 21141 minutes under water (352.35 Hours) • 53 Club Divers completed logged dives which is around 72% of the club membership (based on current membership of 74) • Also dives from 3 Guests included in stats

  8. Most Time Underwater The Diver who has the staying power is Lee Spencer

  9. Total Number of Dives Again the winner is Lee

  10. Biggest Stopout Andy Turner is the Biggest Stopper

  11. Who dives the deepest John Hannah and Mick Crossman Jointly Dived Deepest at 44.7M

  12. Gassy Divers (as usual!) Rebreather use remains constant Nitrox is now the bottom gas of choice more often than Air – 32% mostly (19%)

  13. Busiest Dive Location Excluding the Training weekend at Stoney – Falmouth is the most dived location

  14. Diving Report • Some points from the dive logs • There are a number of entries where the dive depth exceeds the MOD of the gas entered on the log sheet – in one case to a PPo2 of 1.67 at bottom depth – this is potentially fatal and must stop • Please respect the MOD of your gas – plan dives accordingly with the dive manager

  15. Diving Report • Another point is – on quite a number of dives logged – there is a sometimes substantial difference between buddies dive times – Buddies should surface together under normal diving conditions – there should be no leaving buddies on Deco stops or at the bottom – this is another potentially fatal situation.

  16. 2014 Dive Programme The Dive Program is ready tonight Some printed copies available Available to download from website Please read booking rules – and sign the box to say you have done so. Bookings & deposits to be in by 31st December To me with a cheque or by email & electronic payment to club. .

  17. 2014 Dive Programme • A change in perspective on Dive leader dives – only one full boat booked – and 4 spaces on 3 separate dives – due to the difficulty filling spaces this year and poor response to request for interest. • 2 Ocean Diver Day Dives and 2 Weekends – more can be booked if there is demand • Slightly less bookings this year – an austerity programme (29 instead of 34 days) – will book more if needed.

  18. 2014 Dive Programme • Lymington booked as a day dive • Newquay Weekend repeated • Changed the balance from 2013 – more day dives and less weekends • 6 Sports Diver Day Dives (2 in 2013) • 2 Ocean Diver (2 in 2013) • 3 Dive Leader Part Boat bookings (2 full boats in 2013)

  19. 2014 Dive Programme • 3 Sports Diver Weekends (8 in 2013) • 2 Ocean Diver (2 in 2013) • 1 Dive Leader – but may be changed to 42M or 35M depending on demand (1 in 2013)

  20. 2014 Dive Programme • Accomodation bookings on some dives cost us quite a bit in 2013 • High risk accommodation such as caravans have not been booked in advance for 2014 and can be booked for the number who pay deposits for the dives.

  21. 2014 Dive Programme • We also have a Holiday on the list as the 3 day Lundy Dive does not fall within the parameters of a standard club dive – costs will be notified later and will be split between all attendees – but will be higher than standard cost.

  22. Summary • Safety – a good year generally after a rocky start • Dive season was successful with some great dives but a little under-subscribed • 2014 dive programme is available and is slightly smaller than 2013 with the option to expand it later.
