  4. Risk Factors • Young Age (15-29) – 3 million/year • High Risk Sexual Behavior • Multiple partners • Early onset of sexual activity • Increased frequency of intercourse • Choice of high risk partner(s) • Anatomy

  5. Most Common STD’s • Chlamydia • Herpes II • Gonorrhea • HPV • HIV • Hepatitis

  6. Chlamydia • Most prevalent STD in US • Estimated 3-4 million new cases/year • In 2009 14,000 new cases in Minnesota

  7. Chlamydia • Silent infection with serious consequences • Chronic pelvic pain • Infertility • Ectopic pregnancy • Pelvic Inflammatory Disease Treatment

  8. Herpes Genitalis • Very prevalent • Two types of herpes • Viral infection – no cure • First episode 12 days • Fever, pain • Painful eruptions of skin • Inflammation
