  1. Scotland A PowerPoint Presentation By: Doug McGirk

  2. Reason for Visiting • Ever since I was little I had always wanted to learn about everything Scottish. My family is Scottish in heritage (My last name itself is Scottish, McGirk) and I would also like to learn more about my ancestry. Scotland is a beautiful country, deeply involved with nature and the world around us; the people of Scotland have a deep respect for this world. Scotland is rich in historical lore and tales, and its culture and society still reflect the days of Scottish ancient times.

  3. 'Ographies of Scotland • Scotland is in North Western Europe, and is to the North East of Ireland. • Scotland’s climates are very temperate due to it being a maritime country. • The currency of Scotland is Pound, and although they print their own version, the Scottish Pound is the same to the British Pound. • Scotland is divided into two basic parts: The Highlands and the Lowlands. The Highlands are mountainous and hilly, whilst the Lowlands are flat and lacking of hills.

  4. Itinerary Leaving Date: July 5th Return Date: July 13th

  5. 8:00 – Eat Breakfast at the Hotel • 9:30 – 4:00 Travel to and visit Loch Ness. Tour the lake and visit the town around it. Visit the Loch Ness Gift Shop to hopefully find a souvenir that has something to do with the Loch Ness Monster (I have always been very intrigued by this and would definitely like to learn more, so what better place!) Also have lunch at the Loch Ness Café. • 5:00 - Return to the hotel for Dinner. The Lovat Arms is famous for their localized food grown on their own farm. • 7:00 – Write in a journal about the day. For this memorable trip, I would like to document everything. Some TV at the hotel and bed around 10:00ish. Day 1 This day obviously is my first full day in Scotland. I am checking into the Lovat Arms Hotel in the Highlands, located in Beauly, 10 miles from Inverness, the capitol of the Highlands.

  6. 8:00 - Breakfast • 9:00 – 1:00 Travel to have lunch in and visit Falkirk. Falkirk was a major battle in the First Scottish wars of Independence (the wars are broken up into four parts.) The English were able to defeat the Scottish, yet were unable to reclaim Scotland due to the massive casualties they sustained. • 1:30 – 5:00 Travel to and visit Sterling Bridge. This battle took place in the first Wars of Independence in which the Scottish army, massacred the English army (which sustained anywhere from 70% - 90% casualties) while sustaining few casualties themselves. Stirling Bridge is on the River Forth. • 5:30 -Travel back to the hotel for dinner and to turn in for the night. • 6:30 – Write in journal about the day, relaxation in hotel before bed around 10. Day 2 Today I will visit famous battle sites of the Scottish Wars of Independence against England, when Robert the Bruce was king of Scotland and William Wallace led his forces to freedom against the Forces of the tyrannical Edward Longshanks.

  8. 8:00 – Breakfast • 9:00 – Travel to Inverness and take a bus tour of the city. • 12:00 – Try to find somewhere to have a traditional Scottish lunch, (I have heard haggis really isn’t all that bad, and I am intrigued to try it!) and then continue to walk sightsee and maybe do some shopping. • 7:00 Return to Hotel for dinner and Document my day, bed around 10 Day 3 Today I will visit and tour the Highland Capitol of Inverness. Inverness further delves into the nature appreciation and is well known for its floral decoration.

  9. 10:00 – Breakfast • Today I have decided to leave as a day of rest and relaxation. It is a good spot for this day as it is the middle of my week. Scotland abounds fully in nature’s glory. The many forests and mountainous regions of the highlands offer amazing ways to really appreciate the world around us. Sometimes with the hustle and bustle of everyday life, we forget how precious Earth really is to us. So Today I would like to simply remember this, and take a break from all the hustle and bustle! • 6:00 – Dinner and documentation, then bed around 9. Day 4 A day of rest and Relaxation, possibly go to a park to walk, get in tune more with the beautiful surroundings that Scotland has to Offer

The mountains are said to be some of the hardest hiking in Scotland, so a guided tour would definitely be necessary! • 7:00 – Back to the hotel for dinner, some TV, Documentation, and bed around 9. Day 5 Today I plan to do some hiking. The Highlands are plentiful of hills and mountains, and I have always loved hiking.

  11. 8:00 - Breakfast • 9:00 – Travel to Birkhill castle in Fife. This castle has facilities for certain size parties, as well as golfing, fishing and shooting (possibly if time permits I would like to do some shooting, as I enjoy shotgun shooting very much.) • 12:00 – Travel to Glenrothes, the administrative center of Fife, to walk around, have lunch at and visit the Kingdom Shopping Center, which is one of the largest in Scotland. • 5:00 – Travel back to the hotel for dinner and evening rest and documentation, bed around 9.
