  3. Middle School vs. High School Block Schedule More rigor, higher expectations More homework Advocate for yourself 9th grade matters!!!

  4. Block Schedule… 0 Period: 7:20 – 8:20 (Tuesday – Friday) Period 1 or 2: 8:30 – 10:05 Nutrition: 10:05 – 10:25 Period 3 or 4: 10:25 – 12:05 Lunch: 12:05 – 12:50 Period 5 or 6: 12:50 – 2:25 Support (7th period): 2:25 – 3:10

OPHS Graduation Requirements English (4 years) Social Studies (3 and ½ years) Math (3 years) PE (2 years) Global Science (1 year- 9th) Life Science/Biology (1 year- 10th) Physical Science/Chemistry (1 year- 11th) Visual and performing art (1 year) Technology (1 semester) Practical skill (1 semester) Health (1 semester- 9th) Life skills (1 semester – 12th) General electives (55 credits) 240 credit to graduate

  6. 9th Grade Course Selections… All 9th grade students will take: English I Health /World Geography (semester of each) Math (placement determined your current math teacher) Global Science PE Elective: 1 year or 2 semesters

  7. Honors Global Science • Fast paced • Must be in Algebra I in 8th grade • A’s in all quarters of Alg. I or B’s in all quarters of Geometry • A’s in all quarters of Science • Advanced on STAR

  8. Elective Options… Technology and a Practical Skill (semester of each) Visual and Performing Art (year long) Foreign Language (year long): Chinese, American Sign Language, French or Spanish

  9. 7th Period Support… 2:25 – 3:10 daily Daily attendance highly recommended Make up tests and quizzes Get help from teachers Get homework done

  10. More Options… Zero Period Study Hall Recommended for student athletes Must take “0” period No credit • Optional • Meets Tuesday – Friday • 7:20 – 8:20am • Must take 7 classes • Not necessary to fit in all classes
