BroncoData Vision FRAMEWORK Every division, college, department and program on campus shares a common requirement and reasonable expectation that the information necessary to perform its mission and function should be readily available STANDARD Convenient access to timely and accurate information is the hallmark of the data warehouse

BroncoData Vision BUILDING FROM AN EXISTING FOUNDATION • BroncoData began as a project within IRAP; its vision and value are recognized and reinforced by this new model • The growing importance of BroncoData exceeded the existing resource model • The new model builds upon the existing infrastructure, enhancing its effectiveness by providing an organizational structure distributed across the divisions

Guiding Principles • Success is the endpoint – assuming the request is consistent with a valid business need and appropriate use, a request will be honored • Timeliness is essential • Requests will have a champion – either a data architect or report writer will work with the requestor to get the right data, possibly refining the request or output • Processes are clear, simple and effective • Communication is effective and proactive • Security guidelines and procedures are clear

  9. BroncoData – New Model • The data warehouse is a decentralized, yet integrated system • Its organizational structure is distributed across divisions • Contributions from both functional and technical experts are essential

Report Developers • Functional and technical staff from all divisions • An online community (listserve) used to notify developers of report requests; developers pick up assignments by area of expertise • Regular group meetings to track assignments, prioritize requests, share expertise, problem solve • May recommend policy, procedure and guidelines to the Steering Committee • Collaboration among report developers and between report developers and data architects is essential to success

Local Report Coordinators • Designated "go to" people in colleges and other units; the most immediate resource for basic DW help • Assist users in identifying existing reports and arranging access and training • Keep up-to-date on reports and features through regular communications • Discover unmet data needs and coordinate requests for new reports or enhancements

  19. Server & Application Support • I&IT provides hardware and software support • Primary DW support functions: server management, database administration, application software support, front-end application administration, and technical user support • Coordinates the implementation of security
