Workshop trialling interim research project findings… Project SW0703: Models of good practice in recruitment, initial assessment, induction and ongoing support for ITE trainees [from L&S sector]
Summary Today’s workshop will present and trial interim findings of current research project (Nov 07-Nov 08) into models of good practice in four identified areas across range of ITE progs in the L&S Sector. The project (SW0703) was one of several funded by SWitch CETT in its first year
Project SW0703: An overview • Ongoing – further trialling here, final report end Dec or Jan • 20+ providers approached, 12 participated, covering 18 discrete courses • Courses covered awards spanning NQF levels 3 to 7, inc f/t and p/t pre-service, and p/t in-service progs • They included those validated by NABs and HEIs in SW region
Outline of project • Research tools developed inc interview schedules and tabulated forms for recording answers • 18 courses reviewed, mainly CETT partners, key individuals interviewed • Documentation gathered and reviewed • Egs of ‘good practice’ identified (and discussed here) • You’ll contribute to further refinement and development of findings • Process repeated from earlier focus groups (‘action research’?)
The practical ‘workshop’ bit: You will be allocated a group according to your role. In that group please discuss three things: 1) What do you do differently, or what couldn’t be undertaken, due to the demands of your context or other constraints? 2) One year on from the start of the new regulations, what has changed about your processes in these areas? 3) Following ‘Equipping our Teachers for the Future’ (DfES 2004), how can we as ITE address the agenda to attract diversity into the L&S sector teaching profession?
Concluding remarks • Thank you to SWitch CETT for funding • Thanks to you for participating • We plan to write final report by end of Jan, and will be including input from today’s session • Contact us with any other ideas or for more details: richard.waller@uwe.ac.ukjo2.thompson@uwe.ac.uk
