  1. Authentic Manhood Winning at Work & Home Session 12: Two Visions of Work

  2. The Prevailing View of Work Work is a concession to life.

  3. The Prevailing View of Work 1. “It’s just a job.” 2. It’s a necessary means to the things I really want. 3. The ultimate goal is not to work but to retire.

  4. The Higher View of Work Work is a calling of God.

  5. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1 And God saw all that He had made and behold, it was very good. Genesis 1:31 The Higher View of Work 1. God is a worker.

  6. The Higher View of Work 1. God is a worker. And God rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Genesis 2:2

  7. The Higher View of Work 1. God is a worker. Great are the works of the Lord; They are studied by all who delight in them. Splendid and majestic is His work. Psalm 111:2-3

  8. What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him? Yet You have made him a little lower than God, And you crown him with glory and majesty! You make him to rule over the works of Your hands. Psalm 8:4-6 The Higher View of Work 2. God created man as His co-worker.

  9. The Higher View of Work 2. God created man as His co-worker. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

  10. The Higher View of Work 3. What about “the curse”? • Work was God’s will for Adam, not God’s curse on Adam. • Man’s sin made God-created work harder. God curses the ground, not the work of cultivating the ground. “Cursed is the ground because of you; in toil you will eat of it all the days of your life.” Genesis 3:17

  11. Impact in History • It emphasized work as the will of God for everyone. • It endorsed all work with an equal dignity. • It encouraged honesty and diligence in work while investing, not consuming, the profits from work.

  12. Impact in History • Sudden economic expansion. • Personal prosperity.

  13. Key Scripture That Summarizes Higher View of Work Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. Colossians 3:23-24, NASV Work hard and cheerfully at all you do, just as though you were working for the Lord and not merely for your masters, remembering that it is the Lord Christ who is going to pay you, giving you your full portion of what He owns. He is the one you are really working for. Colossians 3:23-24, The Living Bible

  18. The Bottom Line Your work today will be driven by how you “see” (with your brain) your work. That’s the power of perspective.
