  1. Welcome to Student-Led Conferences Today is your chance to experience a “Day in the Life of a 6th Grader.”

  2. Morning Routines Each morning Mrs. Wilson picks us up from the basketball courts. We come into the classroom quietly and we say the Pledge of Allegiance. Then it’s time for language arts!

  3. Writing: We work on writing first thing in the morning. We have written a lot this year so far. We have written a book on a candy we invented, an autobiography, friendly letters, business letter, poetry, and much more. Let me show you one of the things I have done so far…

  4. Science So far this year in science we have learned about: • Scientific Theory • weather • Water cycle • Ocean floor We will end the year learning about: • Cells Let me tell you about my favorite science activity we have done so far this year…

  5. Social Studies Social Studies has kept us really busy this year. Some of the areas we covered were: • Early Civilization • Mesopotamia • Early Cultures Now we are learning about Ancient Egypt. Let me tell you how the Egyptians mummified their dead. ...

  6. Daily 5 During language arts, we do our Daily 5 everyday. Our Daily 5 includes: • Read to self • Read with a partner • Listening to reading • Writing • Work on our menus • My favorite Daily 5 activity is……

  7. Lunch & Recess We go to the cafeteria for lunch. My favorite thing to eat for lunch is……we get to go out on the playground for recess. During recess, I usually…. After lunch, we head out to recess. My favorite thing to at recess is…..

  8. Math We have been learning a lot this year in math. One of the things I have been really focusing on is converting mixed numbers to improper fractions and improper fractions to mixed numbers. Ask me to convert _____ to a mixed number and _____ to an improper fraction.

  9. Math Lesson For our math lessons, we use a math textbook and take notes in our math journals. Let me show you what my math journal looks like. This helps me with my homework and is a great resource to use to review for tests. Mrs. Wilson introduces us to the concept and usually does examples and practice problems on the board, and then we do a lot of practice problems on our own. We usually do a homework page reinforcing what we cover each day..

  10. Because we have such a early lunch, we need a afternoon snack. We need a little fuel to keep our minds going for reading. Most days, we take a working snack break where I can have something at my desk. My favorite snack to bring is…..

  11. Language Arts Language Arts takes up the majority of our afternoon. It is the time when we focus on reading including comprehension, vocabulary, parts of speech, punctuation, and writing activities. Most weeks we have a “menu” of different things to work on during the week when we aren’t reading or meeting with Mrs. Wilson I think I am best at… I think I could work more on…
