  1. DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY WEBQUEST

  2. Having been brought up in the "digital age" students often have a level of proficiency and comfort surrounding technology that exceeds that of adults. Therefore, Blue Mountain Union staff is calling upon students to assist in an important decision making process. Essentially, we are engaging you students as "consultants". We have recently been awarded $1,500 for the purchase of a camera and accessories for the school.

  3. The “camera” can be an affordable model of camera, in which case you may decide to purchase a number of cameras for your specified budget.

  4. Conversely, you may decide to use the budget to spend on just one “high end” camera in which the class would then have to share.

  5. To facilitate your making the best recommendations, we will further specify the needs we would like to have fulfilled: • The camera should be of a quality that will stand up to lots of use and abuse. • The camera should be reasonably easy to operate. Lots of different students and staff will be using it. • The camera should somehow interface with our school computers. We will need to move pictures onto them.

  6. To facilitate your making the best recommendations, we will further specify the needs we would like to have fulfilled: • We need to know how best to store images. There’s apt to be lots of them that we want to keep. • Consider the various options for storing images • SD Cards • External Hard Drive • Flash/USB/ Thumb Drive

  7. To facilitate your making the best recommendations, we will further specify the needs we would like to have fulfilled: • What other accessories should we purchase? For example, should we get a tripod, extra lenses, filters or media storage cards? • We would like to be able to take action photos (e.g. sports), class trips and activities, and have a high enough quality image suitable for use with the yearbook.

  8. Students will work in groups of two, but before doing so you should do the following individually: • Read the "Task" of this WebQuest very clearly. • Write in a Word document a brief outline or couple of paragraphs about what you already know about digital cameras and digital photography.

  9. Tasks that should be completed as a team • Research the websites provided under "Resources". As you do this research, add notes in your word processing documents that address the various aspects of the Task. You will be turning in your Word document.

  10. Tasks that should be completed as a team • Pay special attention to the "needs" of the school that have been specified. You should visit all of the websites listed.

  11. Tasks that should be completed as a team • Make a plan for how you will present information to school administration to help with the digital camera purchasing decision. You may create your own presentation (movie or power point) or you may plug in your information in the template provided on the website. Be sure to address all the information requested in the “Task”.
