4. Public Safety Canada (PS) • created in 2003 to ensure coordination across all federal departments and agencies responsible for national security and the safety of Canadians. • “From natural disasters to crime and terrorism, our mandate is to keep Canadians safe.”

5. Canada Border Services Agency • Since December 2003, the CBSA has been an integral part of the Public Safety Portfolio, which was created to protect Canadians and maintain a peaceful and safe society. • CBSA ensures the security and prosperity of Canada by managing the access of people and goods to and from Canada.

6. CBSA responsibilities: • administer legislation that governs the admissibility of people and goods into and out of Canada • establish how people and goods move through our borders • interdict illegal goods entering or leaving the country • protect food safety and the environment by stopping prohibited or hazardous products arriving at our air, land and sea ports • promote Canadian business and economic benefits by administering trade legislation and trade agreements to meet Canada’s international obligations • enforce trade remedies that help protect Canadian industry from the harmful effects of dumped and subsidized imported goods • administer a fair and impartial redress mechanism
