  1. Warm-Up: May 24, 2013 • Find the area of a triangle with the following measurements 29.95 m2

  2. Homework Questions?

  3. The Law of Cosines Section 6.2

  4. The Law of Cosines • Used to solve SSS and SAS triangles

  5. Solving SAS • Use the Law of Cosines to find the missing side. • Use the Law of Sines to find the angle across from the shortest given side • Find the third angle by subtracting the other two from 180˚.

  6. Example 1: SAS • Solve the triangle 8.03 123.52˚ 14.48˚

  7. You-Try #1: SAS • Solve the triangle 5.73 34.85˚ 90.15˚

  8. Solving SSS • Use the Law of Cosines to find the angle opposite the longest side. • Use the Law of Sines to find either of the remaining (acute) angles. • Find the third angle by subtracting the other two from 180˚.

  9. Example 2: SSS • Solve the triangle 34.77˚ 86.42˚ 58.81˚

  10. You-Try #2: SSS • Solve the triangle 20.74˚ 32.09˚ 127.17˚

  11. Warm-Up: May 28, 2013 • Solve the triangle 7.88 18.57˚ 140.43˚

  12. Heron’s Formula • The area of a triangle is given by Heron’s Formula: • Where s is one-half the perimeter

  13. Example 4 • A farmer uses three lengths of fence to make a triangular pigpen. The fences measure 12 feet, 8 feet, and 16 feet. What is the area of the enclosed pigpen? 46.48 ft2

  14. You-Try #4 • John is repainting his living room. Above the fireplace is a triangular section of wall that John wants to be a different color from the other walls. He wants to know the area of the wall to ensure that he buys enough paint. The edges of that wall measure 18 feet, 12 feet, and 12 feet. How big is that portion of wall? 71.44 ft2

  15. Assignment • Page 616 #1-37 Every Other Odd • Round all answers to three decimal places
