  1. Grammar Chapter 14 Need your notebooks and paper! We are taking notes today!

  2. Turn to page 296 • Copy the key concept at the top of the page. Highlight the key word. • Copy the chart at the top of the page. • 4 categories for nouns: person, place, thing, idea • Ex. Person: teacher • Ex. Place: school • Ex. Thing: book • Ex. Idea: loyalty • Let’s do exercise one together on our paper.

  3. Page 297-Collective Nouns Copy key concepts and both charts on your paper. Collective Noun: describes something that represents more than one thing without making it plural! Example: class Do ex. 2 on your paper!

  4. Compound Nouns Copy key concept and chart Three types of compound nouns: Hyphenated: daughter-in-law Separate: middle school Combined: railroad Do exercise 3 on your paper.

  5. Page 298-Common and Proper Nouns • Copy key concept and chart on bottom of paper • Common: not specific • Example: teacher • Proper: capitalized and specific • Example: Ms. Carroll • Do exercise 5 on paper now.

  6. 14.2 • Copy Key concept on page 301. • Pronoun: word that takes the place of a noun • (examples: she, he, it, we, they, their) • Page 302: Copy key concept • Antecedent: the word that the pronoun is replacing in the sentence • Example: Ms. Carroll went to the store because she wanted a new pair of shoes. • Pronoun= she antecedent=Ms. Carroll • Do ex. 13 on your paper now!

  7. Page 303 • Copy chart and key concepts • Think of personal pronouns: • First person-about you (I, we, me) • Second person- you, yours, your • Third person- she, he, him, her (not yourself or the person you are talking to) • Do exercise 14 on your paper now.

  8. Page 305 • Copy key concept and chart • Demonstrative pronoun-this , that, these, those • (think of a demonstration- points something out. It shows you something) • Page 306 • Interrogative Pronouns • Copy key concept and chart • Question words!!!!!!
