So what is voice? • Voice is a writers ability to portray their own personality in their writing. • When checking your paper for voice, you should ask your self these questions… • Does this paper sound like me? • Am I using words that I typically use? • Am I being honest in my writing? • Am I portraying my emotion and opinions in my writing?

  9. How can you manipulate your writing to reflect your voice? • Write honestly by including your opinions, emotions, and personality in your writing (if you’re funny, be funny! If you’re sarcastic, be sarcastic!) • Choose your words carefully • Pay attention to the connotation of words • House vs. home…scared vs. terrified…beat vs. torture • Don’t be afraid to use some slang or expressions you use in everyday writing • Manipulate and play around with sentence fragments, and punctuation, and text features • ! … -- ( ) italics bold ALL CAPS • Yikes! Oh boy! Aw man! Uhhh… I mean, Gross. Seriously.
