A preposition is a word that begins a prepositional phrase and shows the relationship between its object and another word in the sentence.
You can always take a prepositional phrase out of the sentence and it will still make sense.
Infinitive phrases can also act as adjectives.
(to spend modifies the noun idea)
(to see modifies the noun man)
(to doubt modifies the noun reason)
