what is sound
What is Sound?
  • Sound is a mechanical wave that’s an oscillation of pressure sent through a solid, liquid, or gas
  • Composed of frequencies within the area of hearing and of a level sufficiently strong enough to be heard
  • Mechanical vibrations that can be interpreted as sound are able to travel through all forms of matter
how do human ears work
How do Human Ears Work?
  • The human eardrum is a stretched membrane. When sound waves hit, it vibrates and the brain interprets it.
  • A chain reaction starts in your eardrums. It then sends the vibration to the smallest three bones. First the hammer, anvil, and the stirrup
  • Neurologists haven't figured out how our ears interpret the sounds
what are soundwaves
What are soundwaves?
  • Sound travels through the air as vibrations in air pressure.
  • They work by vibrating off of solid matter.
  • When an object in air vibrates, it causes compression waves in the air. These waves move away from the object as sound. There are many forms of the vibration. An example is when the strings of a guitar vibrate, it’s sending sound waves
how does hearing impairment work
How does hearing impairment work?
  • If you have hearing impairment, you practically can’t hear anything at all
  • Can be caused by birth defect, loud sounds, certain diseases, accidents, and genetics
  • When your profession involves loud sounds (for example musicians or construction workers) make sure you wear ear protectors of some sort.
