  2. What is BISE? • Partnership between the EC (DG ENV, JRC, ESTAT, RTD) and EEA. • DG ENV leads the policy and strategic aspect of BISE. It liases with MS through: - Nature Directors meeting - Coordination Group for Biodiversity & Nature - Reporting Expert Group (reporting under Nature Directives) • EEA is the biodiversity data centre and will host the public BISE webpage and the section on themes and data (EC CHM). • JRC, ESTAT and RTDare contributing to data (other EDCs), projects and research

BISE Concept, 1/07/09 • Implementing 2005 Go4 Technical Arrangement and Environmental Data Centres • Implementing 2007 EC Directive 2007 establishing an Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community (INSPIRE) • Implementing 2008 EC Communication concerning a Shared Environmental Information System (SEIS) Need for developing a common vision, close cooperation on the practical work & and division of tasks, clear work-plans

  5. Two-step approach • Biodiversity Data Centre developed by EEA and DG ENV • BISE common concept agreed at first joint meeting between DG ENV, JRC, ESTAT and EEA on 1/07/09 and further discussed on 11/12/09

  13. The BISE v.0 Is being developed by EEA, ETC-BD in partnership with DGENV, DGJRC, EUROSTAT to be published in June are : A concept paper v.0 A prototype on the EC Clearing House portal With a governance proposal that will allow its further development
