  2. Definition Of English Romance • When most people think of romance they think of medieval times. • The basic materials of medieval romance are knights and adventure. • Astory of fictitious adventure, frequently marvelous or supernatural.

Definition Of English Romance • Perhaps surprisingly, any "love interest" is likely to be incidental to the story of a medieval romance. • These romances often wove their stories around a famous legendary figure (Arthur, for example, or Tristram) • Their immediate subject matter was a love story of some kind.
