  1. Evolution This presentation is made possible in part by support from: The Alfred L. and Constance C. Wolf Aviation Fund

  2. Evolution of Flight Hello, my name is Greg Lawrence and I am your Instructor today. The person who taught, the person who taught, the person who taught, the person who taught me to fly was Orville Wright at Huffman Prairie . The 1901 version didn’t have a rudder and Orville got hurt discovering adverse yaw. My Great-Great-Grand-Instructor, Orville and his brother Wilber flew many gliders before they flew the 1903 version with a motor on it. The 1902 version had a rudder and larger wings. Flew very well and the brothers put a motor on it for the 1903 version.

  3. What is a Glider? FAR 1.1 Glider means a heavier-than-air aircraft, that is supported in flight by the dynamic reaction of the air against its lifting surfaces and whose free flight does not depend principally on an engine. A glider captures and utilizes the natural energy in the atmosphere Putting a motor on a glider does not change it’s category to airplane. In other words, a glider captures and utilizes the natural energy in the atmosphere to fly. Putting a motor on a glider makes it a self launched glider. Every airplane glides, only gliders soar.

  4. What is FREEDOM? • free·dom/ˈfrēdəm/Noun • 1. The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. • 2. Absence of subjection to foreign domination or despotic (Antonym = democratic) government Hindrance/Restraint High cost of fuel Unavailability of fuel Airspace restrictions Mandated equipment Equipment certification Pilot certification Medical certification Inaccessibility of airports Our fuel is lift that is abundant and free. Despotic Governance FAA EPA TSA CAB FCC US Military Why aren’t you flying now? Who crated those hindrences? Glider category aircraft are exempt from many of the restriction. You can still bring your family to the gliderport, walk around, touch and talk. Glider category aircraft do not require transponder or ELT. Gliders are certified the same as airplanes. Glider pilot certification is faster and less expensive. No medical certificate required for glider pilots.

  5. What is Soaring? Soaring is what we are evolving into. Only the highest bird forms, Eagles, Hawks, Condors and a few others soar. That may be true of people also. Gliding is descending while soaring is using natural lift to climb and cruise. “Using natural lift” is aligning yourself with the flow of energy in the universe and seems (feels) like a very, very good thing to do. Soaring is FREEDOM Orville Wright, Oct. 1911 10 years after the ‘01 glider, almost 8 years after the first powered flight, Orville Wright evolved to soaring. 9 minutes, 45 seconds of slope soaring was the world record for a long time. Soaring is what we are evolving into. When we have more FREEDOM, we can fly for the pleasure and feeling of being at home, in the air. Soaring 100, Oct. 21-24, 2011, Nags Head, NC Celebrates the 100th anniversary Then, we no longer have to find an excuse or a destination. The waves, cloud streets, slopes, convergence, darkest parts of the clouds and birds are the destination.

  6. Evolution of Greg Greg Lawrence “Deafhawk” 1966 When I was 8 years old, I looked out the open door of a cub and realized that there was nothing between me and the ground but air and that air was my home. Home is where you know in your heart that you belong, feel comfortable and must return to.

  7. Our Home (verb) To live in or inhabit an ideally perfect home. Decoration Making OUR home more ideally perfect with us in it. DwellGreen is the project that captures and utilizes the natural energy to make your home soar (capture and utilize the natural energy). Walls Ecolution is the project that captures and utilizes the natural energy to make the gliders that capture and utilize the natural energy so that we can soar. Ceiling

  8. Evolution of Pipistrel LSA Plant Gorizia, Italy Main Plant Ajdovscina Fly into Venice, Italy

  9. Ecolution Design, materials and production are focused on the goal of maximum performance with fewer emissions. Materiel – Latest composites for strength and perfect surface. Production – Sustainable, self sufficient factory sells energy TO the public utlity. Design – Aspect ratio and shape of wing for lift and speed Design – Lighting is controlled according to the season

  10. How do you make a factory soar? Solar electricity production . This is the factory in a virtual wind tunnel. Geothermal for heating and cooling. Heat pump to supplement geothermal.. Generator to supplement solar on cloudy days. Of course all heat and gasses are captured and recycled. Heat energy is captured and recycled. Heat and gasses from the welding shop are captured, scrubbed and recycled. Your home can soar with this technology also.

  11. In Serial Production NOW 1 Taurus Electro w/Solar Trailer is available to ship now (June 2011) Taurus need never be on the grid. Retractable Landing Gear

  12. Learn to Fly in Virus SW Motorglider Get your Private Pilot Certificate with Glider category rating quicker than Sport Pilot and fly 1000 mile trips with passengers at 18,000 feet. Then, add LSA Airplane with a log book endorsement if you want to fly airplanes. Now flying at San Antonio Sport Aircraft (SALSA), coming soon to Florida and a flight school near you.
