Installation of AFS Cell • successfull installation of test cell rz.hu-berlin.de from 2005 until 2006 • in November of 2006 production cell cms.hu-berlin.de was established • 3 Kerberos (Heimdal) and Datenbank server • 3 File server are configured • all servers are running under Debian Etch • all volumes are on SAN storage disks of 500 gb • actually there are about 60 gb used AFS Cell at CMS - 2 AFS-Workshop TU Graz 2008 Daniela-Maria Pusinelli

Users of Cell cms.hu-berlin.de /1 • there is an optional offer for all users with an CMS account for a separat user volume in AFS Cell • everytime a new user of CMS gets an UNIX account he will get an AFS account and volume too • UNIX ID is equal to ID in protection data base • an adum script will transfer the passwd from UNIX account to AFS account • authentification of users is managed by kerberos • AFS-Token via klog or via integrated PAM Login AFS Cell at CMS - 3 AFS-Workshop TU Graz 2008 Daniela-Maria Pusinelli

Users of Cell cms.hu-berlin.de /2 • actually there are 27,221 users at CMS (nearly every student and staff member) • everybody gets at first a volume of 500 mb quota, which will be extended if she/he is using it • in the average there are 42 user a day AFS Cell at CMS - 4 AFS-Workshop TU Graz 2008 Daniela-Maria Pusinelli

Data Backup • every volume has RO copies on other File servers • every day at 6.00 pm all volumes will be released • the volume release takes between 30 and 60 minutes • hierarchical backup policy on seperate SAN Storage via AFS backup • it realizes that we can restore all data with state from the day before AFS Cell at CMS - 5 AFS-Workshop TU Graz 2008 Daniela-Maria Pusinelli

  6. Support of CMS • Support for nearly every clients • Debian, Ubuntu, RedHat, SuSe, Windows, Mac OS • Support for individual installation in working groups AFS Cell at CMS - 7 AFS-Workshop TU Graz 2008 Daniela-Maria Pusinelli

  7. Software distribution via AFS Cell • third party software is stored in the AFS Cell • For example: Matlab, Maple, Intel Compiler, Portland Group Compiler • the responsible person from institut or working group is a member of a AFS group • ISO Images are stored and may be mounted from AFS for installation of software AFS Cell at CMS - 8 AFS-Workshop TU Graz 2008 Daniela-Maria Pusinelli
