So Far Today on green organics • You’ve heard the view of a Processor and an End User • You’ve heard some very strong arguments regarding the value to the environment • The points regarding the direct savings to Councils are strong indeed • We need to get this right and we need to work together to succeed!

  3. Working together to what end? • REDUCE CONTAMINATION IN ORGANICS COLLECTED FROM HOUSEHOLDS • TO PRESERVE THE MARKET PLACE FOR THE END USE OF THIS VALUABLE MATERIAL • TO PROVIDE A QUALITY, UNDERSTANDABLE REGIME OF COLLECTION • TO EDUCATE OUR PUBLIC IN THE MOST EFFICIENT AND EFFECTIVE MANNER.

Some Principals of our Systems of waste Management • We rely on a system of Source Separation of waste streams • CDL (Container Deposit Legislation) allows for effective diversion of most of the glass out of the various streams • Our Demographic and Urban layout enables efficient collection systems

  10. Elected Members and Staff • Visit the Composting facilities • See first hand what the contaminant looks like • Ride shotgun in the collection vehicle to see the issues first hand • Visit ALL the facilities involved in managing household waste output

  11. It’s all about relationships (as always) If CSO’s and Drivers understand each others roles then the approach to the enquirer is uniform and aimed at a common result! AVOIDANCE OF CONTAMINANTS IN THE ORGANICS STREAM We need to deliver a triple bottom line to our communities
