  5. High School Starts in Middle School The following Middle School courses are part of your high school transcript, high school ranking and high school GPA • Spanish 1 • Spanish 2 • Pre-AP Spanish 3 • AP Spanish 4 • PE Foundations • Keyboarding • Pre-AP Algebra • Some Specific Technology Courses

High School Credit “The Basics” • All classes earn.5 credit per semester • A course usually has related parts for each semester (example: Algebra 1A and 1B) • Grades: • 45% of grade is each nine weeks • 10% is final exam Bonus Weight: Given to Pre-AP, Dual Credit and AP courses • To earn course credit:must have 70% grade and 90% attendance at each semester

Biggest Factors of College Admission • Rigorous High School Courses Successfully Taken • Pre-AP or College Board AP • Scores on AP, SAT, ACT • Experiences/Involvement (Resume) • Class Ranking • Texas Colleges automatic acceptance for Top 10% • (appr. 96% average including weighted classes) • UT Austin- Top 7% (Appr. 97%) All of these can start happening now!

Housebill 5 http://www.tea.state.tx.us/graduation.aspx https://elpaso.episd.org (quick links Housebill 5) • The Commissioner must adopt a transition plan to implement House Bill (HB) 5 and replace the Minimum High School Program (MHSP), Recommended High School Program (RHSP), and Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP) with the foundation program beginning with the 2014-2015 school year.

Why Dual Language Magnet Program? • Dual Language Magnet students enroll in Pre-AP, AP and/or Dual Credit courses (individualized) • Students graduate Foundation with Distinguished • Students graduate with Advanced Seal of Bi-Literacy • Students graduate with mastery of most requested skill that can be used for any profession (Spanish Language) • Students graduate with enough credits for minor in Spanish in college • Students work toward certification in translation • Student utilize i-pads to incorporate technology and bi-literate resources • Students embrace: Bilingual, Bi-cultural, Bi-literate

El Paso High School • Strong Academics- 5yrstate qualifier of Acadec, National Qualifier in High Q and History Day and over 6 million dollars in scholarships awarded in 2013, National Merit Scholars, National Merit Hispanic Scholars, only high school with all TEA distinctions (math, LA, and progress) • AP National math and science foundation grant, AP Google grant, TLI grant; record number of AP courses offered, 2013 had 55% increase in passing AP scores • Strength in Athletics and Fine Arts
