Kirschstein Individual National Research Service Award (NRSA) Career Stage: • Finishing PhD • Early post-doc yrs (1 - 3) Essential Components: • US Citizen or permanent resident • 40 hrs/wk full-time effort • Stipend ($37K - $51K) and institutional support ($7.85K) • Mentor • 1 – 3 yr awards; non-renewable Keys to Succeed: • Strong candidates • Great research proposal • Committed and experienced mentor

  5. K99/ R00 Pathway to Independence Award Career Stage: • Senior postdocs ready for independent positions in 1-2 years. Essential Components: • No citizenship requirement • <= 5 yrs research experience since Doctoral degree awarded • 9 .0 calendar month (75%) minimum effort • 1-2 yr K99 phase (mentored): Salary ($100K) /Research support ($30K) • 1-3 yr R00 phase: $249,000/per year Keys to Succeed: • Exceptionally strong candidates who is almost ready for the job market • Great research proposal with promise for an independent career • Highly regarded mentors

Institutional Training Grant: T32 • Career Stage: • Graduate Students • Post-doc fellows • Essential Components: • US Citizen or permanent resident • 40 hrs/wk full-time effort • Stipend ($37K - $51K) and institutional training • Up to 5 yrs of for pre-docs; up to 3 yrs for post-docs • Mentor • Keys to Succeed: • Your institution has T32 programs • Strong candidates • The mentor has training resource
