  2. All about AGW • Alfred G. Waters received the distinction of “Superior” in 2010 and 2011 by the Delaware Department of Education • AGW was recognized as a Top 10 School by Johns Hopkins University Center for Talent Youth • In 2010 and 2011 AGW made Annual Yearly Progress • At the conclusion of each of the three marking periods, more than 450 students were recognized for Principal’s Honor Roll and Honor Roll

Academics • Sixth Grade Courses and Curriculum • All sixth graders will have the same curriculum for Math, Science, Social Studies and English Language Arts • Students are scheduled into homerooms and course sections by the computer • An academic enrichment period is offered for 30 minutes each day • Students will participate in two Related Arts classes daily • Students will also have the opportunity to explore several world languages

  6. Grading and Report Cards • Home Access Center (HAC) is available to all middle school students. Parents will be provided with a user name and password to view attendance, assignments and grades online. • Grades are reported for four marking periods. Report cards are distributed in November, January and April. The 4th marking period report card will be mailed next June. Conferences are scheduled for November and February, and as needed by contacting the school. • Students are required to pass all four content areas for promotion to the next grade. • Grades will be based on 40% Process (practice- homework, classwork) and 60% on Product (demonstrating an understanding- tests, major projects).

  7. Helpful tips for Incoming 6th grade students • If you have any medical concerns, please contact Mrs. Newsom, our school nurse via email or phone. She is available by appointment this summer also. • Practice with a combination lock for the lockers • Dress code expectations can be found at www.agwaters.org • Important to note: • Length of shorts, skirts and dresses are at the knee • Any top worn over nylons, leggings or tights must come to the knee • Excessively tight clothing or clothing with holes above the knee are not permitted
