What is a bibliography? • A bibliography is a list of resources used in preparing a piece of work. • When presenting a piece of work you need to cite or quote the sources you have used. • References need to be cited in two different places: • In the text itself • In a list at the end of your assignment

  4. Books Include the following information in this order: Author’s surname, initial(s). (full stop) Year. (in brackets) (full stop) Title of Book (underlined or in italics) Publisher, (comma) Place of Publication. (full stop) Online Books Example Georgio, G. (1993).   5. Books (edited) Include the following information in this order: Editor’s surname, initial(s). (full stop) (ed.) (in brackets) Year. (in brackets) (full stop) Title of Book (underlined or in italics) Publisher, (comma) Place of Publication. (full stop) Example Teuma, D (ed.) (2009). Lion taming for beginners.   6. Reference Books • Include the following information in this order: • Title of Book (underlined or in italics) (full stop) • Year. (in brackets) (full stop) • Publisher, (comma) • Place of Publication. (full stop) Example EncyclopediaHoxtonia. (1999) Hinchinbrook Publishing, Liverpool. BACK

If there is no date write n.d. after the author’s name n.d. = (no date) If there is no publisher or place of publication skip steps 5 & 6 and finish woth step 7.   16. In text referencing • Citing in the text (with out direct quote) • At each point in the text which refers to particular resource, insert the author’s surname and publication year. The work of Thompson (2009), Bryant (1999) and West (2007) were considered with the use of technology and the impact it has on student learning. • Citing direct quotations • After the quote include the author’s surname, publication year followed by page number. “These resting times provide periods for reflection and permit time for new things to be learned, mastered and brought to fruition.”  (Jones, 1995, pp.122-3) BACK
