  6. The district is studying the feasibility of introducing a targeted world language program to our elementary schools for fall 2016. • Nationally about 25% of elementary schools have some form of world language instruction. Research shows that early childhood is an optimal time to learn a second language. • Adding an elementary world language program is subject to finding adequate resources, including capable certified instructors. • Early May, district teachers and administrators will join me in examining and exploring the elementary world language program at the Annie Wright Academy in Tacoma. They have added a targeted world language in their elementary program in a manner similar to what we are exploring. • You can read more about our progress on the district’s website. World Languages

  7. Fred Rundle and the Elementary Team recommended Mondo Bookshop Common Core for grades 3-5. • This represents a continuum of pedagogical consistency for grades K-5. • Wired for Reading will be used for Tiers I and II. • Special Education (Tier III) uses whatever materials are needed such as: multisensory like Orton Gillinghamand Slingerland; Readwell; Read Naturally and others. • 1.0 FTE K-2 Literacy Coach and an additional 1.0 FTE Grades 3-5 Literacy Coach are planned. Recommended Adoption: Mondo BookshopCommon Core
