String Family • Makes up more than half of the of the orchestra • Each of the instruments have strings • Curvy wooden bodies and long necks • Incleudes • Violin • Viola • Cello • Double bass • Harp
Woodwinds • Use to all be made of wood, but now some are made of metal • “wind” refers to the air that is blown and makes the sound • Long narrow tubes with wholes • Include: • Flute • Oboe • Clarinet • Bassoon
Brass • Made of brass • Loudest instruments in the orchestra • Long tubes with a flared end • Includes: • French Horn • Trumpet • Trombone • Tuba
Percussion • Small and large instruments • Can be used by hitting, shaking, or scraping • Must use right force in the right spot and at the right time • Includes: • Snare Drum • Timpani • Cymbals • Bass drum
