Scheme Overview Pilot Scope: • Enhance SmartConnect system functionality • Develop transactional module (incl e-purse) • Develop GPRS/WAN communications infrastructure • Issue up to 7000 Citizen Smartcards to selected users of: Cambridge City Leisure Services Cambridge Central Library Transport Application – Park & Ride CCC Shire Hall Campus Staff

Cambridge Developments • End-end transactional system to manage and monitor all transactions • Scheme wide e-purse with functionality for local and online top-up facilities • Triple DES Encryption for all transactions and diversified keys • Multi-function transaction points for Library, Leisure and Coffee Shops

  8. E-purse Features • FSA Registered and Approved System • Inbuilt “checks & balances” to counteract tampering and spoofing • Maximum £50 (variable) e-purse • Cash and On-line top-ups

  9. E-purse Benefits • 27bn Cash Transactions < £10 per year 8bn of which are for less than £1 • Average Transaction Speeds Cash = 34 seconds Contactless = < 10 seconds • Oyster “tap & go” demonstrates the potential for achieving wider customer service improvements
