  2. 1956 The dependency load is 40.3% with most under 15 years of age. Many elementary and high schools are built to accommodate these age groups. Fewer people live past 65 (LE 68) Depression Era Babies Baby Boom

  3. 1971 The dependency load has dropped to 37.7%, the baby boom has ended. Larger number of workers paying taxes allows the government to build colleges and universities. Slightly more people live past 65 (LE 73) Depression Era Babies Baby Boom

  4. 1986 The dependency load has dropped to 31.6%. Most of the baby boom are working and paying taxes. The government can continue improving roads, schools, the healthcare system. Many people living past 65 (LE 77) Depression Era Babies Baby Boom

  5. 2001 The dependency load is only 31.5%, but most are now 65 and older. The government must spend money in areas such as retirement homes, geriatric hospitals, and on the Canada pension plan. Many people live to be over 65 (LE 80) Baby Boom
