This study investigates the learning process of a novice gamer as she engages with Timesplitters 2 on Xbox. Through 10 gameplay sessions involving 20 players in pairs, we analyze how a person without prior gaming experience develops operational and conceptual competencies essential for gameplay. The difference in adaptation between two players, Lisa and Guna, is highlighted; Lisa successfully develops both skill types, enabling her to progress, while Guna struggles with conceptual understanding, hindering his advancement. This research contributes to the understanding of gaming literacy and competence.
