  2. Access to services • To find out what services are available in Fountains • You can get access to all the facilities on completion of enrolment • Your student card is also your library card

  3. Layout of building • Ground floor – computers, study spaces, Quick Access Texts, reference books and journals open 24/7 • First and second floors – main book collections, variety of quiet and group study zones • Link to our Virtual tour of the building

  4. Borrowing & returning • Use Self-Service machines for borrowing, renewing or returning • Need student card and PIN • Loan periods • 4 week loan • 7 day loan • 1 day loan

  5. Resources in Fountains • As well as books, you can borrow DVDs, CDs • Journals (some for reference only) • You can borrow up to 15 items at once • Quick access texts (for reference only)

  11. Holds • If you want an item that is on loan, place a hold • Email sent when hold is ready to collect • Check your University email! • Self-service holds collection area on ground floor

Checking your loans • Choose ‘Library account’ from homepage • Need User ID and PIN number to logon • User ID is your student number • PIN number will be emailed to you • Renew on Self Service points or library web pages or library catalogue • Renew 4 week and 1 week loans up to 7 times • Fines are due if items returned late

  13. Computers • Over 400 computers in IT rooms and open areas, esp. ground floor • Wireless access for your laptops • Internet available from halls of residence

  14. Saving your work • Document Library in MySite • ‘Documents’ area on network (200Mb) • Use memory sticks to backup • ALWAYS backup your work!

  15. Software on PCs • Annette Webb can help you with Microsoft Office software e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint • Help with MyYSJ student portal • One to one and group sessions

  16. Printing & photocopying • You can print out and photocopy on the same machines in Fountains • Prices for printing/copying displayed by each machine • £2 free credits for new students • You have an online account to add credit: instructions at Question Point.

  17. Electronic journals & databases • Most resources available off-site as well as on the campus • 1000s of full text journal articles available electronically

  18. Question Point • Ask us for help at Question Point on the ground floor • Finding books • Using electronic resources • IT queries • Roving staff throughout the building
