We will be looking at cells in the process of reproducing to determine where cells originate (come from). Cell Theory – cells come from other cells.
What would happen to a species if it could no longer reproduce?
Where do cells come from? All Organisms begin as one cell. Every cell contains organelles that have specific functions to carry on all of life’s processes. If reproducing is required for a species to continue, then cells must reproduce.
How do cells reproduce? In unicellular organisms, the cell divides to make new versions of itself.
In multicellular organisms, the cells divide and then specialize to become different structures such as heart, brain, lungs, etc. blood heart bone
Everyday your skin cells die and replace themselves by reproducing new ones. They do this by division called MITOSIS. Mitosis occurs in multiple stages or phases.
We will observe Onion Root slides to observe the cells that are going through different stages of the reproductive process called mitosis.
Now, we will begin writing your Scientific Investigation for this lab in your notebook. Turn to page 361 in your Textbook. And begin writing your Title followed by the eight (8) steps for Scientific Investigation.
