  4. What is empathy? Empathyis being able to perceive someone else’s emotions or feelings. It’s a little bit like being able to put yourself in their shoes while remaining able tohelpthem.

  5. Have you ever been empathetic? • Have you ever happened to notice that a friend was sad and tried to understand why they were sad? • If you answered “yes,” then you have already felt empathy.

  6. Have you ever been empathetic? “It’s normal for you to cry and feel sad. You loved your dog a lot.” Have you ever happened to tell a friend something like that? If you answered “yes,” you expressedempathy.You certainly made your friend feel better.

  7. Yes, it’s important! The ability to be empatheticcan lead to many positive experiences throughout your life, even when you’re older. Is it important to be empathetic?

  8. Being empathetic can: About amounts… • Help you make friends more easily; • Help you have good relationships with others; • Give you the sense of helping others.

  9. Being empathetic can: • Make you more confident; • Make you less judgmental about others; • Make you more accepting of others’ differences.

  10. Advice on developing empathy • Show interestin others. • Reallylistento your friends so you understandthem. • Becomefamiliarwith the different emotions.

  11. Advice on developing empathy • Don’tjudge others. • Accept that others may think or act differently than you. • Tryto put your own values and opinions aside.

  12. One Last Thought • Theimportant thing is to let the other person know thatyou understand how they are feeling.
