  1. July 30th 2011 Communications Committee

  2. Communications CommitteePrinting • Promotional Literature: Nothing new to report

  3. Communications CommitteeBooth Issues • Booth:We have three sets of banners in the US, one old style, and one set in Europe normally at CERN. • Distribution: The IEEE warehouse has taken over the storage and shipping of the booth and the literature. I now get the shipping order to IEEE and so, as ever, I ask your help with getting the shipping details defined in good time. We will need to know things like the shipping address for the brochures etc. for the registration packets and for the booth and the time window for delivery. Also, we need to know who the contact is and who will be on the booth.

  4. Communications CommitteeDistribution of Promotional Materials • Distribution: Generating the shipping order will remain my responsibility. In addition some items are still shipped from my office such as custom membership forms generated by Vern and the USB stick with the promotional slides to be used before a session starts. Up to now, IEEE shipping has worked smoothly and I am impressed by the service. I did visit the warehouse in May to meet with Mike Ruccuzzo, the Shipping Manager.

  6. Communications CommitteeInternet… • Web Site: Please remember to keep your area of the site current if not expanded. Last time I mentioned that the IEEE has an email opt-in facility that we could implement for information emails from us on particular topics. These might include news from the different TCs. Any interest?

  7. Communications CommitteeMembership • Projector for AdCom: For many years I have been bringing our company projector to AdCom. That old projector has became unreliable. Bob, Albe and Ron all agreed that NPSS should buy a smaller AdCom projector that I would look after for the coming meetings. You see it doing its job today.

  8. Communications CommitteeMembership • Membership: The charts attached show membership and the comparisons with the year earlier membership. Clearly we see the annual drop-off but there is an underlying average growth that has dropped from last year’s 3.5% pa over 4 years to 3.3% over 5 years. It will be seen that the rate of membership growth last year (Feb10 – Feb11) was negative for the first time in over 5 years. • For each meeting with Vern we create a custom membership form and we then print these and ship them to the meeting. The filled in forms are then Fed Ex’s to Vern for processing. This Fed Ex is expensive and there is a risk of loss. We are considering either having a portable, duplex scanner so that forms can be scanned on-site and emailed or having one or more tablets to fill in the form “on-line”.
