  2. What’s happening …… • Communication & Health Literacy Action Plan July 2011-June 2013 Under re-redevelopment

  3. What’s happening…… • Advocating and promoting action on health literacy • Supporting implementation of Standard 2 (consumer engagement) • Working with the Department of Education (LINC Tasmania) 26TEN to promote participation in adult literacy programs.

  4. What’s happening...... • A Communication and Health Literacy Workplace Toolkit • Workshops- “Developing resources for the public”. • Developing an e-learning resource.

  5. What’s happening …… • Work with the University of Tasmania to integrate communication and health literacy training into undergraduate courses. • Research- Working with Tasmania Medicare Local and the University of Tasmania on a three-year project: Health Literacy: Strengthening self-efficacy & competency for practitioners.

  6. What we have learnt…… • Need to be planned/strategic but also opportunistic • Leveraging of other priorities eg AS&QHC Standard 2 • Investing in building partnerships • National Health Literacy Statement • It’s about the “how” • Everybody has a role “It doesn’t matter where you start every little bit makes a difference”
