  2. What is voice? • VOICE is a verb form that shows whether or not the subject is performing the action.

  3. Which is “better”? : • Miss Arney punched Joe. • Joe was punched by Miss Arney. Why?

  4. Active Voice • A verb is in active voice when its subject performs the action. • Miss Arney punched Joe. • Joe is suing Miss Arney.

  5. Passive Voice • A verb is in passive voice when its subject does not perform the action. • Joe was punched by Miss Arney. • Miss Arney is being sued by Joe.

  6. Active voice is STRONGER!

  7. Which is it? • Signal Card activity: GREEN for active; RED for passive Yellow: IDK

  8. ACTIVE (green) or PASSIVE (red)? The researchers conducted the poll.

  9. ACTIVE (green) or PASSIVE (red)? The poll was conducted by volunteers.
