How words change • Root - a word base, or the element that gives the word its core meaning • Eg:Scope means ‘to see’. • Prefix- a word part added to the beginning of a root or word • Eg:Micro means ‘very small’ • Microscope means ‘an optical instrument for viewing very small objects’. • Suffix- a word part added to the end of a root or word • Eg:–icmeans ‘relating to’ • Microscopic means ‘relating to a microscope or ‘so small as to be visible only with a microscope’.
