  1. Intermediate 3D Animation - CT5MED3D (2018/19) Term 2: - Cameron Samuel Student No.: - 846874

  2. Lip Sync Project. For this project, we was given a head model which we rigged and added controls to in order to create a short animation where the head says a line from any film of our choice. We started of with a test animation from an audio piece which Matt gave to use in order to have a better idea on how to lip sync animation properly. From this, I learnt that in order to achieve a high quality lip sync animation, is to only animation letters such as “m”, “p”, “t” and “s”. After this test, we then animated our own audio. The audio that I chose for this animation was a clip from The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! in the hospital scene at the beginning of the film. It took me three attempts on completing this unit, reacting to feedback which I received from Matt and in result the outcome is really high quality animation which flows well with the audio. From this small project, I have learnt on how to animate a lip sync character rig properly and also I can use these skills that I have learnt in future 3D projects within my third year.

  4. Nursery Rhyme Project. For this project, we was told to create a small animation with the chosen nursery rhyme character from our Advance Visual Research Unit with Jackie. The nursery rhyme that I chose for that unit was Itsy Bitsy Spider. I modelled a spider model as I was taking the shape of the spider from the Lucas the Spider Animation series on YouTube. After this model was completed, I then looked back on the research that I have conducted and remodelled the spider to make it more life like. After that, I then conducted a number of walk cycle animations in order to have a better understanding on how the spider will walk and move. After conducting research on how each of a spiders legs have its own two-by-two movement cycle; I used tat reference that I found and created a walk cycle that looks natural. I then decided to think on what animation I want to create with this character. As I’m naturally scared of spiders myself, I decided to create a short animation with the Glark monster model from the first term of the year and create an animation with creative camera shots in regards of the 180’ rule and focus of the fear of arachnophobia with the Glark model getting scared of the spider. I will achieve this by imposing that the spider is a very large scary spider when in acutely fact is it a small spider. The texture for the final spider model will be textured with the XGen hair/grass tool in Maya. This tool allows you to create a large number of small polygons in order to create a grass or fur affect on a Maya model.

  8. Final Outcome of the Nursery Rhyme Project. The final outcome of this animation is really good. I created a play-blast version as well as a fully rendered and lighted animation. Both versions have a large number of sound effects, some of these sound effects I used for the animatic that I created for Advance Visual Research. I am very pleased with the rendered and lighted version of this animation; it really adds some scary feel into the spider, as it represents that spider as a large, black hairy spider; also the affect that I have placed on the eyes shows a good affect with the lighting and it reflects well on the overall environment which the spider it is in. Throughout this unit my modelling skills have improved and also my animations have also improved. For next year in my final year of studies, I will keep on improving my modelling skills and also trying to reference more often.
