  2. Preparation • Please have two pieces of paper. • Create a design using one piece of paper. • Write down how to create the design using the other piece of paper. • Five minutes to complete exercise.

  3. Testing • Hiding your creation, exchange your instruction manual with someone across the room. • From your newly acquired manual, construct the design based on the instructions given – do not assume anything. • Three minutes are available for construction.

  4. Results • Find the person with whom you exchanged projects. • Compare original design with new constructed design. • How did you do?

  5. General Guidelines • Analyze your audience • Plan for safety • Use lots of figures and diagrams • Number the instructions (be sure to present in chronological order) • Use the imperative mood • Include an overview

  6. Checklist • Are the instructions matched to the skill level of the audience? • Is the overall process and purpose described? • Are all theories and principles explained? • Are all of the steps listed (and in correct order)? • Are all of the materials listed?

  7. Checklist • Is a budget included? • Is a schedule / timeline included? • Are there lots of illustrations and examples? • Are references for further information or assistance provided?
