  3. Current Role • Head of CTIU • GM prevent lead • North West Prevent lead • ‘Any other duties’

  4. Pathfinder Year • GM steering group in place • Prepared bid for GM February 07 • £700,000 funding acquired • Intelligence led allocation of funding • Risk areas prioritised • PVE coordinators established

  5. Information Sharing • Probably the most significant challenge • Why do we need to share? • What do we share? • How do we do it? • What are the associated risks? • What do people want to know?

What are we seeking to achieve? • Identify Violent Extremism in communities • Identify opportunities to confront and reduce the threat in line with the PREVENT agenda • Provide a Mechanism to support Intelligence led CT activity at BCU / Partner level • Focus community engagement activity within neighbourhoods

AGMA (10 greater Manchester Local Authorities) Greater Manchester Partnership Architecture Preventing Violent Extremism Steering Group Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) Programme Team Develops partnership working between: AGMA, GMPA, DCLG, OSCT, Home Office, DCSF, GONW, Local Authorities, Regional Police Forces (Deal with objectives 1,2,3,4,5) AGMA & GMP CTU Preventing Violent Extremism Programme Team Preventing Violent Extremism Coordinator Group Prevention Cell (Deals with objectives 2,4,5) Vulnerable to Radicalisation Project (Deals with objectives 3 and 4) Youth Justice Board Project (Deals with objectives 2,3,5)

  8. PVE Steering Group • L.A. Chair • Strategic direction for PVE programme • Ensure relationship between GMP, AGMA & partners • Maintain link into AGMA colleagues • Joined up working • Source of challenge and influence for Govt

  12. What are we going to achieve? • Strengthened commissioning • Advise and offer guidance on project /event planning • Maintain focus on Prevent • Promulgate good practice • Ensure LA and BCU prevent action plans are complimentary • Support evaluation • Developed understanding of communities

  13. Lessons learnt • Good relations and relationships are critical • Strategic group invaluable across multiple authorities • Local steering group will provide accountability and facilitate delivery • Try to use existing mechanisms • Must have access to the ‘intelligence’
