En su pintura fusiona la elegancia del gótico con la pintura más realista de otros maestros del Renacimiento, como Masaccio. Su maestría en la representación del movimiento y su capacidad para crear planos de profundidad a través de la perspectiva lineal, lo confirman como uno de los pintores más importantes de principios del Renacimiento.
