The Diepkloof Youth Centre • The building was renovated by the Cape Bentonite Mine in 2008/2009 as part of their social responsibility to the community • The DME as well as the Hessequa Municipality are the other two partners in the venture • It was agreed that Hessequa municipality will take responsibility to develop or support programs • An NPO would be established to run programs
Purpose of the Centre • To provide Heidelberg with a facility that will add value to the community • To create a facility that can be used for social, skills and economic development programmes • To use the building as a multi purpose centre to render services to the community • To serve as a satelite for the Riversdale Thusong Centre
monitering • A monitering team consisting of the following people will be established • A representitive of: • Xairu • ECCA Holdings • Ward committee • The Community • Hessequa Municipality
Xairu Youth Empowerment Programme • Xairu is a registrered NPO with the Department of Social Services. • Xairu was established in 2008 and its main purpose is to empower the community ,in particular youth and women • Xairu wants to add value to the broader community and by utilizing the Diepkloof buildings will put them in a position to serve the community
Successful Xairu Projects • The well known Kairos Drama Group is the anchor organization • HIV/Aids through the Eyes of the Youth ,a film project • HIV/Aids Life Drama project • The “Proe Bietjie Kunstefees” a cultural Festival • Various other community projects such as training workshops; clean-up campaign • Puppetery workshop
MANAGEMENT • The Diepkloof Youth Centre will be managed by the Xairu Youth Empowerment Programme to the benefit of the broader community. • The management team will consist out of: • The Chairperson • The Secretary • The Treasurer
Programmes /PROJECTS • 1. Xairu and Kairos Drama Group • 2. The Job Centre • 3. Mug Printing Project • 4. Computer Training • 5. After School Care Programmes • 6. Heidel Senior Club • 8.The small hall will be used for meetings, workshops , training etc. • 9 The small buiding next to the main building will be also be used for community activities such as ABET classes . Meetings , soup kitchens etc
Implementation plan • 18 July: Community Meeting and Madiba Day Celebrations • 26 July: Official decision by Hessequa Mun to rent out building to Xairu Youth Empowerment Programme • 29 July: Sign lease contract and MOU with mun. • 30 July: Appointment of Centre manager • 1 August:Moved into building • 2 August : Meeting with ECCA Holdings • 3 August : Tenants sign contacts and move into their spaces
Implementation plan (Continued) • 7 August: Small Farmers Meeting • 8 August: Women’s Day Celebration with Matric Students as guests • 9 August : Girl Child Conference • 10 -12 August: Training : mug printing • 15 August: Launch of Mug Printing Project • Twice a week: ABET • Meetings on ad hoc basis • Needs assessment of training will be done • Unemployment assessment in the community will be done in September
