  3. For example: • If your eyes causes you to sin … pluck it out • Go, sell all you have and give to the poor

  4. If anyone does not hate his mother and father, he cannot be my disciple • Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood you have no life in you

  5. CONTEXT • and • GENRE

  6. WE READ THE BIBLE IN DIFFERENT WAYS ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS FOR DIFFERENT REASONS

  7. We read the Bible THEOLOGICALLY to find God’s truth on a particular issue • EXEGESIS

  8. MY COMMITMENT TO YOU: • Relying on the Holy Spirit, to use all the gifts and experience that God has given me, to do all that I can to present God’s truth to you as accurately as I can

  9. We read the Bible DEVOTIONALLY as God’s word to us • we want to hear him speak • to teach us something

  10. PROPHECY is passing on a word which you believe the Lord wants the group to hear

  11. Matthew 10:5–10 5These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. 6Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. 7As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’

  12. 8Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. 9Do not take along any gold or silver or copper in your belts; 10take no bag for the journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or a staff; for the worker is worth his keep.

  15. WE ARE TO APPROACH THOSE WHO HAVE TURNED AWAY (LEFT THE CHURCH) AND TO INVITE THEM BACK

  16. DON’T STRATEGISE AS TO HOW YOU’RE GOING TO DO THIS • 9Do not take along any gold or silver or copper in your belts; 10take no bag for the journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or a staff; for the worker is worth his keep.

Matthew 10:9–10(NEW LIVING TRANSLATION) 9“Don’t take any money in your money belts—no gold, silver, or even copper coins. 10Don’t carry a traveler’s bag with a change of clothes and sandals or even a walking stick. Don’t hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve to be fed.
