  1. ProjectSummary: Applying mathematics to solving real-life problems is a key component of the project. We work with modern mathematics software and the e-learning platform Moodle, and use emails and Skype for exchanging mathematical ideas. In total, there will be three cooperations and one project during the two years. The focus is on applied mathematics and e-learning units E-learning and Math Projects for Students and Teachers across Europe This project has been funded with support from the European Commission. 2. Advantages: All partners, teachers and students alike, will benefit greatly by working with colleagues from different European countries. This will enhance understanding of citizens and cultures throughout Europe. The project should also increase the awareness of what it means to be a European citizen for those directly participating in it. Participants will further their knowledge of how to coordinate such a European project and liaise with people from different countries and cultures. In particular, proficiency in English will be developed as all partners will use this language as the primary language of communication. Students directly involved in the project will travel to other European countries and work directly with their cooperating partners. Communication of mathematical ideas, either directly or by electronic means, will be of great benefit to these students both in school and as they progress to their adult lives. Increasing student interest and competency in Maths Modern technologies allow us the opportunity to diversify our teaching and learning approaches by including visualizations, demonstrations and exercises that are closely linked to real-life examples. Many students feel that Maths is an abstract and overly theoretical subject that bears little relation to their lives and the world around them. The use of e-learning units and the gradual progression of concepts within these units allows the students to gain a better knowledge of the content. This in turn is often accompanied by the realization that Maths is a fascinating and exciting subject and not abstract as previously thought. 4 3 2
