  2. Slovakia • Slovakia is a land locked country in Central Europe. • Borders with Czech Republic, Austria, Poland, Ukraine and Hungary • The largest and capital city of Slovakia is Bratislava. • It is a member country of the European Union.

Geography • Slovakia is known for its mouintainous regions such as the Carpathion mountains in the north of the country. • The Tatra mountains are a popular skiing destination with scenic valleys and lakes and the highest point in Slovakia. • Slovakia’s climate is temperate with relatively warm summers and cold, cloudy, humid summers.

  4. Slovak is spoken in Slovakia by five million people as well as in the United States, Czech Republic, Hungary, Northern Serbia Vojvodina, Romania, Poland, Canada, Australia, Austria, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Croatia and some other countries across Europe. Language

  5. Coat of Arms • The Slovakian coat of arms is composed of a silver double cross elevated on the middle peak of a dark blue mountain consisting of three peaks. It is situated on a red earthly gothic shield.

  6. Education • Most of the schools in Slovakia are owned by the State. There are also church owned schools and private schools. • There are 9 years of compulsary education. • Students attend school 5 days a week. • Holidays are from the 1st of July to the end of August. • The school year consists of 2 semesters. • There are six classes a day, each class lasting 45 minutes.
