Objectives • Determine volume ratios for gaseous reactants and products by using coefficients from a chemical equation • Calculate amounts of gaseous reactants and products in a chemical reaction using the gas laws
Finding Volume • Start with a balanced equation, always!! • Ex: CH4 (g) + 2O2 (g) CO2 (g) + 2H2O (g) • 2L of O2 reacts completely with 1 L of CH4, producing 1L of CO2 and 2L of H2O

Calculations with Volume and Mass • Must know: • Balanced equation • At least 1 mass or volume for a reactant/product • Conditions under which gas volume have been measured • Remember: • Masses given must be converted to moles first! • Temp must be in Kelvin
