SYMTOMS • The symptoms of measles usually begin to develop about 7-11 days after the person first becomes infected. • The first symptoms are normally similar to a bad cold: fever, runny nose, sore throat and a cough. • A few days later a bright red, blotchy rash breaks out on the forehead, face and neck. Within a few days the rash spreads to the body, arms and legs. • Also get high fever

  3. TYPE OF MICROBE THAT CAUSES MEASLES • Measles is caused by a virus • the rubella, virus

  4. WHAT THE MICROBE DOES TO THE HOST CELL Once the virus gets inside your body, it grows in the cells that line the back of the throat and lungs. The infection then spreads throughout the body, including the respiratory system and the skin.

HOW IS THE DISEASE TRNSMITTED • Measles is transmitted through contact • The virus lives in the mucus of the nose and throat. • Person who has measles is contagious from four days before the rash appears to four days after. • When someone with measles coughs, sneezes or talks, infected droplets spray into the air, where other people can inhale them.

  6. TREATMENTS OR PREVENTIONS As measles is a virus, there is no specific treatment to cure the infection. However, resting and drinking plenty of fluids will help you to feel better. Generally two doses of live measles vaccine are recommended, one shot at 15 months of age, and the second shot before entering kindergarten or first grade.
