  1. United States Building a Greener Future

  2. Effects of Climate Change • Expected to warm 3.6-18˚ F (2-10 ˚ C) by 2100 in the U.S. • Human health will be greatly affected with increased incidence of heat waves making citizens with asthma, heart disease, etc. extremely vulnerable • Increased temperature will decrease overall air quality, adding to the overall smog content • Distorted crop cycles through altered temperature cycles and precipitation patterns

  3. Effects of Climate Change vary by Region

  4. Wedges and CDMs • Wedges are technologies that can reduce dependence of environmentally Un-friendly energy. • Clean Development Mechanisms (CDMs) are partnerships that spread these wedges • America has many viable CDMs that can be applied both within the country and between it and developing host countries (America helps other countries develop clean energy sources) • The three most viable in my opinion are…..

  5. Fuel Cells Cars The above diagrams may look intimidating and complicated but essentially, instead of air pollution being a by product of combustion for transportation, water is. There is current technology that makes this possible and once there is a more efficient way of producing the necessary components , many cars may run on hydrogen.

  6. Nuclear Power for Coal Power • White Smoke vs. Black Smoke– The Difference? • gigatonsof greenhouse gas emissions per year, particularly coal which is the most environmentally UN-friendly fossil fuel

  7. Reduced Use of Vehicles By relying on mass public transport vehicles, countries can decrease their overall energy use for transportaton, and thus their dependence on fossil fuels

  8. What Can You Do? • Walk or ride a bike when possible • Use energy efficient appliances like those marked Energy Star • Conserve power in your home by buying energy efficient light bulbs and not leaving electrically powered devices on • BE A SCIENTIST, make fuel cells efficient and save the world (no pressure though  )
