  5. SOE’s Conceptual Framework • T.Cs are instructed to be the ‘salt of the earth’. (Matt. 5:13) • They are to season and enrich others’ lives. • To become the preservative of hope and encouragement to others • Healing agent to others • SALT (Service, Academics, Leadership, Teaching)

  6. Do I need to have teaching experience? • Our program makes it easy for career changers to get their initial certification • If you meet the prerequisite Liberal Arts and Science requirements, pass the LAST, and complete the other admissions steps, you will be able to enroll

Degrees Offered • *Childhood Education (Grades 1 – 6) Degree: Master of Science in Education • Certification: Initial / Professional Childhood Education • 39 credits (if already certified) – 45 credits (if initial certificate) • Coursework may be completed in 20 months with an additional 100+ hours of field experience • 15 weeks of full time student teaching.

Degrees Offered • Childhood Special Education • Degree: Master of Science in Education • Certification: Initial /Professional Childhood Special Education • 36 credits (if already certified) – 48 credits (initial certificate) • Coursework may be completed in 20 months with an additional 100+ hours of field experience • 15 weeks of full time student teaching.

  9. Degrees Offered • Inclusive Education, Gifted Extension: Master of Science in Education • Certificate: Gifted Education Extension for holders of initial certificate • 36 Credits • Coursework completed in 20 months • 50 Hour practicum

  10. Degrees Offered • Inclusive Education, Middle School Extension: Master of Science in Education • Certificate: Middle School Extension 5 – 9 for holders of initial certificate • 36 Credits • Coursework completed in 20 months • 50 Hour practicum

  11. Degrees Offered • Inclusive Education, Bilingual Extension: Master of Science in Education • Certificate: Bilingual Education in area of initial certification • 36 Credits • Coursework completed in 20 months • 50 Hour practicum

  12. Critical Point New York State Certification Exams • All programs have their own standardized exams required by NYS. • Exams must be passed with score of 220 to be certified: • Content Speciality Tests • Assessment of Teaching Skills – Written • Liberal Arts and Science Test (for admission).

  13. Critical Point • Field Experience / Practicum/ Student Teaching • ALL programs require hours in schools during the course of the program. • Initial certificates: 100 hours during course work plus student teaching • Extensions: 50 hours / practicum

Admissions Requirements • Application Fee • Autobiography • Official transcripts - GPA 3.0 • Complete required pre requisite courses • Two academic recommendations / one professional recommendations • Interview / writing sample • Appropriate immunizations • Liberal Arts and Sciences Test – passing score 220

  16. Academic Pre requisites • 30 credits minimum in one liberal arts subject area. (Grade C or better). • OR 30 credits in 9 credits Arts, Humanities, Communication, Written Expression, Technology; 6 credits in History or Social Sciences; 6 credits in science; 6 credits in math; 6 credits in language; Intro course in psychology. • Credits may be CLEPped.

  18. Cost of Program /Academic Year 2009 – 2010 • Application Fee $ 30.00 • Tuition (per credit) $625.00 • Technology Fee $100.00 • Student Teaching Fee $150.00 (2) • Graduation Fee $100.00 • Books $800.00 • Full payment of tuition and fees is due by registration.
