  2. Colonizing Connecticut • Founded in 1636 • Connected by three settlements called Windsor, Wethersfield, and Hartford • Settlers came from Massachusetts • Founded by Thomas Hooker

  3. Thomas Hooker • Puritan minister • Founded Connecticut because he didn’t agree with Massachusetts leaders choice to combine government and religion

  4. The Puritan Religion • strictly followed the bible and God’s laws • All children must be able to read the Bible at a young age so they will follow God’s laws

  5. Climate Geography • Mild summers and harsh winter • Grassy tree area • Connecticut river close by • Over 1,000 waterways • A lot of canyons

  6. Natural Resources Economy • Connecticut river • Fish, livestock, lumber • Some parts have rich soil others do not • Shipbuilding • Exported rum • Farming and fishing
