  2. Purpose • To get you started on your future plans for life after high school • To prepare for individual Senior Conferences • To ensure you are making progress toward graduation • To provide you with information regarding college applications, scholarships, deadlines, etc.

  3. To Graduate: • Seniors must: • Complete the ILP • Complete and pass the History Citizenship Test • Be Academic and/or Career Ready • Complete the 26 credits required • Must be completed before the last day of school • All outside credits must be completed by April 1st

  5. Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES) & KHEAA KEES • Provides scholarships to students who earn at least a 2.5 GPA each year they attend a certified Kentucky High School Make sure you are carrying a full academic schedule (6 credits minimum) www.KHEAA.com KHEAA

  6. The Individual Learning Plan (ILP) • This year you will be required to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP). Not to worry, it is not the one you used before! • The District will be rolling out a new version called Evolve. • At Dunbar we will be using a tool called Virtual JobShadow to assist with Evolve. This will be introduced in your CCR class in the next couple of weeks. If you don’t have a CCR class you can stop by the CCC to learn more about it.

Parchment • Request transcripts: www.parchment.com • Allows you to order transcripts to be sent to any college or university for FREE! • Get a copy for yourself to review or to apply for programs or scholarships • Track your orders on all transcripts to know when they are received. Check your student email for a code.

  8. Student Athletes • NCAA Clearing house Applications must be filed online. • www.ncaaclearinghouse.net • NAIA Applications must be filed online. • www.playnaia.org • There is a fee charged by NCAA & NAIA applications and you must pay online when applying. • Transcripts for both NCAA & NAIA need to be ordered through parchment. • Use code #9999 on ACT & SAT to send scores to the NCAA • Use code #9876 on ACT & SAT to send scores to the NAIA All athletes should apply! KHSAA requires that all athletes must be enrolled in 6 credit classes

  9. Regional College Fair • Event: Gary R. Martin College Fair • When: Monday, September 30th • Time: 5:30PM – 7:30PM • Where: Bluegrass Ballroom--Lexington Center

Gotocollegefairs.com • Maximizes your time at college fairs to visit more colleges and universities • You provide information at one time instead of having to write it multiple times at different college tables at the fair • THE QR code that prints on your college fair ticket allows colleges to scan your information • Sign up before Oct. 1st!

College Admissions Visits @ PLD • Updated list of all colleges visiting Dunbar is on our website: • Under the “Guidance” Tab click on the “College and Career Center.” • On the left side on the screen click on “College Representative Visits at Dunbar.” • https://www.fcps.net/Page/13164 • Sign up online or stop by the CCC. • Emails will be sent to teachers the day of the scheduled visit with the college representative. • A text reminder will be sent to students if a cell phone number is provided!

Permissions slips are required!

Campus Visits Schedule your individual campus visit: • You can schedule an individual campus visit by going to the Admissions page of the college you wish to visit. • You must bring a note from the admissions office on their letterhead with your name, the date of the visit and the admissions officer’s signature. Please turn in the letter to Mrs. Boyd in attendance to be excused for the day. You are allowed 3 excused campus visits. Prior to Visit: • Be sure to get a pre-approval (at least one week in advance) before visiting any colleges • Request to meet with faculty in the academic area that interests you • Request to meet with a coach or extracurricular advisor • See if you are able to schedule to sit in on a class During Visit: • Meet with an admissions officer • Discuss current admission requirements • Review financial aid options and deadlines for scholarships • Tour the campus • Talk to current students; best way to get the “low down” on campus life • Take notes and pictures and keep in a file to reference as you make your final decisions.

Dual Credit and AP Classes • Dual Credit classes- You are earning college and high school credit at the same time, however when submitting transcripts to colleges/universities your high school transcript does not reflect your college credits earned. You will need to request an official college transcript be sent to the colleges/universities you are applying to for the fall. • Math and English- Request an official transcript from Campbellsville University • Science- Request an official transcript from Western Kentucky University If you need help with this please see Ms. Bates in the CCC. AP classes- You have the opportunity to earn college credit when you take the AP Exam for your AP class. Each university requires different AP Exam scores so you will need to research what the score needs to be in order to receive the college credit. You will need to request your AP Exam scores be sent to your colleges/universities through CollegeBoard . You will do this through your CollegeBoard Account. If you need help with this please ask your AP teacher or see Ms. Bates in the CCC.

Helpful Hints • Finalize college applications by Dec. 1st. • Check deadlines for your colleges. • This will allow you to enjoy your holiday break • Request recommendations for college applications as soon as possible. • Teachers & Counselors require a minimum of two weeks prior to the first deadline.

Scholarship Information • Where Can I Find Scholarships to Apply for? • BigFuture (CollegeBoard) • KHEAA Website • Virtual JobShadow • Back page of Senior Packet • PLD Guidance Website • There is a tab dedicated to scholarships • Your desired school of choice • Often, colleges offer their own scholarships, particularly for minority and/or first-generation college students

FAFSA • Free Application for Federal Student Aid • This year you can start the FASFA application as early as Oct. 1st. • There are FAFSA appointments available and can be scheduled on the CCC webpage. Dates: October 9th & 23rd During the Day FAFSA NIGHTS October 9th & 23rd November 13th December 11th

Selective service & Voter Registration Selective Service • All males must register with the Selective Service by their 18th birthday. www. sss.gov • If you do not register, financial aid will be withheld. Seemycounselor.com • Starting in September, you’ll be able to schedule an appointment to see your counselor. • Stay tuned to the Lamplighter feature to air on this date for more information. • You’ll receive an email providing you with instructions on how to make an account. • Counselors will schedule individual senior meetings. You should have at least 5 colleges/universities in mind. Scholarships! Scholarships! If you aren’t interested in college, you should be planning what your next steps are. Is it military? Straight to work, Technical/Trade School? Whatever your plan is do you know the next steps? You can talk with Ms. Bates about a College/Career plan by stopping in the CCC or making an appointment.
